Since 1902, the Haubis family business has proven itself as a guarantor of tradition and Austrian bread and bakery culture of the highest quality - now in its fifth generation.

A universe of traditional and new recipes is transformed daily by the approximately 900 employees into a range of products that fulfill every wish, with tested quality and carefully selected ingredients. Flour, 100% from Austria, guarantees a high degree of domestic added value.

The main production site of Haubis GmbH is located in Petzenkirchen, Lower Austria. Production facilities are also located in Wieselburg, St. Valentin, and Linz.

Handmade and tradition meets state-of-the-art technology.

Although Haubis attaches great importance to craftmanship and the traditional art of baking, the company is also able to make use of state-of-the-art technologies in the management and provision of ingredients as well as recipe control and quality assurance. The company sought out a reliable partner for these diverse tasks and found one in 2017 in the team at ESA Ges.m.b.H. in Wolfern near Steyr in Upper Austria.

A breath of fresh air in process automation

Originally, the recipe control technology had already been implemented for many years, but the previous partner was not as future-oriented, for example in terms of batch tracing. The company began to search within the industry and quickly became aware of ESA, which had been successful at Almi, an internationally renowned manufacturer of spice blends, sauces and marinades, among others.

Good reasons for a collaboration with ESA

Thanks to ESA's references and its innovative, modularly structured and state-of-the-art programmed tools, Haubis was able to quickly advance the decision-making process to finalization.

As the ESA team was recognized as a reliable partner that provides uncompromisingly prompt 24/7 support with a hotline and on-site support and also delivers clean work in terms of electrical engineering and installation, an agreement was quickly reached with ESA.

Sophisticated modernization executed with precision

Since the start of the cooperation in January 2018, several production lines have been equipped with ESA systems, including sourdough and dough pieces, which is quite a complex process, as old controls had to be removed and switched to new hardware and software within a few days.

However, with good planning in close coordination with ESA specialists, there were never any bottlenecks, and all conversion steps continuously met tight deadlines, as emphasized by the Haubis production management.

Using the example of a complex control system for a sourdough facility with five containers, it was recently demonstrated once again that the tight deadlines are always met over the course of a weekend and how, thanks to the ESAweight modules ESAweight Manager, ESAweight Runtime, ESAcom and ESAconnect for data exchange on 57 automatic and eight manual scales, the production process also meets the latest requirements for flexibility and quality..

A new development in the process was the implementation of switching to a replacement item on a hand scale during active dosing. Incidentally, the system comprises 1580 digital inputs and 1329 digital outputs as well as 150 analog inputs and two analog outputs.

Haubis has also benefited in many ways from the conversion of logistics in several raw material warehouses. The Haubis department heads once again expressed great satisfaction with the project process and the result, which was achieved thanks to consultation, automation, electrical installation, planning, software, commissioning, project management, visualization, production support, switchboard construction and hotline support.
